The largest Romanian IXP is Interlan . Funny enough, Interlan is a response of the smaller ISPs  to the other big Romanian IXP, Ronix. Because 3 years ago joining Ronix was a complicated affair, a few small companies decided to take matters into their own hands. Currently,  Interlan has 3 times more traffic than Ronix.

A funny thing about IXPs: often, an IXP’s name is formed from the 3-letter code of the city in which it resides, plus the “IX” suffix. For example, Amsterdam IXP is called AMSIX. Thus, RONIX was first called BUCIX :D
After they realized that BUCIX doesn’t sound so good in Romanian, they renamed it to RONIX.

Alex there was (or still is, I have to check this) a BUCIX! The original name is BuhIX ( your explanation fits perfectly here). This IXP was active in the dark age, late 1990s, and it provided mainly private peering services. You can still see the fossilized webpage : http://www.buhix.ro/index.htm . Notice the fancy Frontpage template and the cool ASCII art matrix.
